Addiction Recovery
What is Addiction?
Addiction is a chronic, relapsing disorder marked by compulsive behaviors despite negative consequences. The DSM-5 renamed the chapter from “Substance-Related Disorders” to “Substance-Related and Addictive Disorders” to reflect the evolving understanding that addiction encompasses more than just substances. It can also involve activities such as gambling, gaming, sex, eating, pornography, work, shopping, and more.

Addiction and Loved Ones
Addiction can affect not only the individual but also profoundly impact their family and loved ones. The strain of addiction can lead to emotional distress, financial instability, broken trust, and strained relationships. Family members may feel helpless, frustrated, and overwhelmed as they navigate the complexities of supporting a loved one struggling with addiction. The ripple effect of addiction extends far beyond the individual, creating a challenging and painful experience for everyone involved.
Educate Yourself
Before we can start to help others properly, we need to equip ourselves with the knowledge and skills to care for those we love. If you are living with someone who is struggling with addiction, let me help you maneuver that.
Relapse Prevention
Relapse prevention is a critical aspect of maintaining long-term recovery from addiction. It involves developing strategies and skills to recognize and manage triggers, cope with stress, and navigate high-risk situations. By fostering a strong support network, engaging in ongoing therapy, and practicing self-care, individuals can build resilience and sustain their sobriety. This approach empowers people to anticipate challenges and equips them with the tools to stay on the path to recovery, promoting a healthier, fulfilling life.
